Geomechanical models have been created to study stress, deformation, and failure based on measured or evaluated elastic and failure properties of formations including clastics, carbonates, gas hydrates and permafrost. These models were based on the finite element method and the finite difference method. High end distributed and parallel computing systems have been utilised to solve linear and nonlinear boundary and initial value problems in a timely manner.
